Key Challenges

Capturing attention in a busy environment

Making complex information engaging and accessible

Technical feasibility with medical, brand, and budget constraints

Client Ask

“Create an engaging educational tool to inform healthcare professionals about COVID-19 risk factors and encourage vaccination”

The primary problem is effectively capturing the attention of healthcare professionals to educate them about the risk factors associated with contracting COVID-19. Given the crowded and busy environment of a medical convention, the challenge lies in making the information both engaging and accessible to ensure that healthcare professionals are motivated to interact with the touchscreen panel and absorb the critical information being presented.

Focusing on the project's ultimate goal: educating healthcare professionals about COVID-19 risk factors to help spread the importance of vaccination. By effectively delivering this education, the touchscreen panel can help increase vaccination rates among healthcare professionals and their patients. Successful engagement and education at the convention can lead to broader advocacy for vaccinations, aligning with public health goals and Pfizer’s mission to combat COVID-19 through increased awareness and preventative measures.

Our Approach

Develop an interactive, visually striking tool to communicate critical information effectively.

From an engineering perspective, the challenge is to develop captivating and interactive elements that not only engage users but also fit within the technical constraints of the project. This includes working within limited time and budget, as well as ensuring compatibility with touchscreen technology.

Project Highlights

How did I lead this project to success?

Personalized User Experience: We connect with the audience allowing each user their unique way of learning.

Interactive Storytelling: Use interactive storytelling techniques to guide users through the information.

Balancing Creativity and Compliance: Working within Pfizer guidelines and the client asks, adjusting all colors and assets for compliance.

Balancing Creativity and Compliance

Being flexible with the design to cater to Pfizers strict design systems and branding

Initially, the client loved our original design (assets with brighter colors and drawn avatars), however, as we approached the deadline, we had to align more closely with Pfizer's strict design systems and branding guidelines. This required changing colors, avatars, and animations to be compliant.

How did we get here?

Creating a well-designed layout in Figma allowed me to adjust art assets and colors quickly by setting up an interchangeable design system in the initial stages. Finding a middle ground between our exciting design and Pfizer's guidelines was crucial to maintain visual appeal while ensuring brand consistency. The flexibility and collaborative efforts led to a successful, compliant design that the client approved.

Personalized User Experience

Allow users to create their own risk assessment profile.

To allow users to envision their patients’ unique health profiles, I used interactive storytelling techniques to guide users through the information. This enables users to explore different scenarios and outcomes based on various risk factors, making the learning process more engaging and memorable.

How did we get here?

Collaborating closely with medical professionals and engineering teams, we employed best UX practices to ensure all risk factors were accurately represented. I developed multiple iterations of interactive buttons, each encompassing various risk factors, and utilized a persona display to visually illustrate the increased risk for each additional condition. This thorough, iterative approach ensured the final product was both accurate and engaging, effectively educating healthcare professionals on COVID-19 risk factors.

Interactive storytelling

Engage users on first glance for an educational and interactive experience.

In designing the first panel of the Pfizer case study to be vibrant and engaging, I focused on creating an immediate impact through background animations. The goal was to captivate users with an educational and interactive experience right from the first glance.

How did we get here?

To achieve this, I utilized subtle yet visually appealing background animations that complemented the content without overwhelming it. The original design below was more vibrant and used different avatars but because Pfizer has strict rules in coloring and branding. I had to find another solution to demand attention.

These animations were carefully selected to align with Pfizer's brand identity and the overall theme of the case study. For instance, incorporating gentle movements like animated gradients or dynamic patterns helps draw attention to key elements such as introductory text or a prominent call-to-action.

Results & Key Takeaways

Increasing Knowledge for Healthcare Professionals with over 1,000 click-throughs.

The interactive touchscreen panel significantly enhances healthcare professionals' understanding of COVID-19 risk factors. By providing an engaging and informative platform, it equips them with the necessary knowledge to educate their patients more effectively. This increased awareness and understanding can lead to better patient outcomes, as healthcare professionals are better prepared to explain the importance of preventative measures, including vaccinations, to their patients. The panel serves as a valuable tool in the fight against COVID-19, promoting public health by empowering those on the front lines with critical information.

Key Takeaways

The project underscores the importance of user-centered design, combining engaging visuals and interactive storytelling to effectively communicate complex information. Balancing these elements with technical feasibility ensures the panel is both impactful and practical, delivering a high-quality product within time and budget constraints. Clear calls to action drive user engagement and actionable outcomes, while an iterative design process allows for continuous improvement, keeping the educational tool relevant and effective.
